Yo Gotti 'I Am' | Album Review
The first complete body of work I have listen to from Yo
Gotti, it was an interesting listen something I was not expecting. I did think
the complete album would consist around the dope game and lyrics would be
solely based on that.
Although the album predominantly features a sound I feel is becoming extinct, he manages to save it with clever lyrics and decent hooks. He
does however do the one thing I think is wrong for rappers which is sing on a couple of
tracks and to make matters worse its auto-tuned. Stand out track for me was “Pride To The Side” a story telling track which has 3
stories that I am sure most can relate to in a way.
"Cold Blood" (featuring J.
Cole & Canei Finch) was another of my favourite’s shows his lyrical content
is strong as he managed to not be out shone by Cole, although he does play
second fiddle on his own track. "Die a Real Nigga”
is the sound I have a problem with on the album, the unimaginative hook
auto-tuned to the max feel this has no place on the album but I am sure it has
its own audience (be it very small I suppose) .
"Don't Come Around"
(featuring Kendall Morgan) was another instant fall in love track, the
hook is great and YG does his thing although I do have to admit I did think it
was Jeezy on this track as there is a bit similarity in rapping style and voice.
The album doesn’t have too many features but the ones that do come on do their
thing even Meek Mill on "F-U" doing
his usual yelling type of rap manages to fit into the album right. "Respect That You Earn" (featuring Ne-Yo &
Wale) the other track with standout features which don’t let down with
Wale again doing what he does best.
This for me like I wrote was a interestingly great listen
and has other gems on the album that people will get into for sure, album is
out tomorrow (19th of November) available for pre order now on
iTunes. I would recommend this for all to have a listen.
Solid 3 out of 5 for this one decent job from YG.
Sampha 'Too Much' (Solo Version) / Happen | New Music
Some of you may know him from his collaborations with SBTRKT and recently his work with Drake and a few other artists. Sampha does a solo version of Drake's Noting Was The Same stand out Too Much which he featured on. The solo is a more stripped back version which has a similar opening sequence but Sampha shines on this as he sings over graceful keys. Check out the visual of both Too Much and the b-side Happen
The single is out now, released via Young Turks.

Jhené Aiko 'Sail Away EP' | Review
Jhené Aiko's debut EP Sail Out dropped today. In a recent interview with Elliot Wilson, Jhené states
"...its seven songs and each song has a different little feel it it, a different mood but for the most part its you know easy going, mellow but is has more of like a Hip-Hop vibe to it... "
She draws influence from Drake and she has such a beautiful voice. The album is mellow, trippy and dark at times but its a good balance. The EP boasts features from Vince Staples (The Vapors), Childish Gambino (Bed Peace), Kendrick Lamar (Stay Ready (What a Life) ) and Ab-Soul (Wth). Don't sleep on this EP. She even spits a few bars on the Drake-esque record The Worst, using a Jay-Z line 'Everybody’s like please don’t like him, he’s no item/He don’t wife ‘em, he one-nights em'
I definitely recommend this EP. Cop it on iTunes
4/5

Eminem - Marshall Mathers LP 2 Review
Eminem - Marshall Mathers LP 2 Review
After a long absence in the game Em has come back with his 8th
solo studio project “Marshall Mathers LP 2”. Although the promotion for this
album wasn’t the best and we didn’t get that usual single from Em which gets
the world talking, it was something I was hoping to be a good listen as he
never disappoints when it comes to complete album material.
All in all this is an album that true Eminem fans will love,
I say that because I don’t think the average music would enjoy this too much. It
has its moments of brilliance as with “Rhyme & Reason”
a track with an ol skool sample and catchy hook which reminds of his old days
and takes a break from the rest of the album. My problem with is album is the unnecessary aggression
on the album, I mean when he first came out it was different and enjoyable to listen
to but 8 albums in he seems to not have matured his rhymes, tracks like “Bad Guy” first track on the album is just a bit much
for me personally as a intro.
I cannot argue with the talent Em has, it is consistent and
would still have him in my top 5 alive right now. The track that shows this the
most is “Rap God” a 6 minute track of just pure
murder and lyrical genius. “So Much Better”
another track with is a bit violent and wouldn’t want any kids to be listening
to this, but the delivery almost takes an easy approach to it, if it wasn’t for
the blatantly crude lyrics it could be mistaken for a track for the masses.
I would have done a
track by track but will end up repeating myself a bit too much. I give this a
3.5 out of 5 as in the right mind frame this is a cover to cover listen, I would
just say be prepared to punch someone in the face after, this will album will
get you extremely worked up.
